Happy birthday to me!

I’ve blogged for years in the past before this one. Every birthday, I write a birthday blog to reflect on the year that’s just passed and to think of what’s ahead. Birthdays for me are my own personal New Year’s celebration. I guess I also think of it this way given the time of year my birthday is.

I usually smack up a list of goals to reach. Most of which I have in the past. I’m not afraid of hard work, that’s for sure. I’ve run a marathon, skydived (3 times), finished my first leg of studies in nutrition, been a group fitness instructor (I do miss those fun classes!), traveled to Europe, bought my own house, got promotions at work, learned how to shoot a bow, tried trail running, and did a boatload of personal growth.

As I sit here thinking of the past few years, I don’t even recognize my own life (in a good way!). I have my dream house, with a great husband, hilarious pets and I’m 26 weeks pregnant, feeling a little baby girl kick around in my belly. Can’t get more lucky than this.

My goal list this year will look a little different and consist of mostly one thing: To be the best mom I can be to my daughter (who we will meet sometime in March) and to set up my family to have a healthy and happy future by keeping up the healthy habits that I’ve accumulated over the past few years. I want to set an example of a balanced life to those around me (meaning yes, you can have pizza AND kale in the same week and not feel bad about it), and thrive.

It’s going to be a tough year – being a new mom sounds like a crazy, tough, challenging, yet rewarding adventure. There will be many tears I’m sure, coupled with sleepless nights. Still, I am so excited for it and I can’t wait to give it a try to see what type of mom I will be.

So there’s my list! Nice and short, but probably the most meaningful to date.

This new year (or birthday, whichever time you use to reflect) take some time to think of one thing you’d like to focus on this year. It can be anything (it doesn’t have to be health related, as really, if you’re doing well in one aspect in life, it can trickle into others unknowingly) 🙂

I’m working on my tips for a healthy year starting in January! Stay tuned for that, and in the meantime, take a few weeks to think about you want for 2017!
