A fitness class with baby

Today, baby girl and I had a fun adventure. We headed to a fitness class that included her! So instead of me arranging for a sitter and packing up all her stuff, she got to come along with me to a nice and easy fitness class. She got to roll around and see other babies her age, while I, well, there is no other way to say it, got my ass kicked.

Working out postpartum has been an adventure in itself. I waded into it very slowly, and gave my body time to really heal before giving it my all. For the past 2 months, I’ve been working out daily, at home with my Tone It Up workout videos (which I loooove!) These videos were so great to get me back into it – but lately I felt like I could push myself a bit more.

Today was the first day that I can say that I gave a workout everything I had. It felt great – and what feels even better is that my baby girl was there, smiling up at me, watching me jump around (and entertain her!)

The class I took was with Jules Sherlock. This woman is a riot. She is so positive and inclusive. I met her when I joined her “stroll and roll” which is just a bunch of women walking their babies down the street. During the class today, her personality really came through. Tough, yet kind. Motivating, but accommodating to injuries or fitness level. Cheerful, yet commanding.

For those who know this blog, I am not one to sell other people. But today’s class really made me feel like I had to say something about it. For the mamas out there who love fitness but aren’t sure if they want to leave their baby with someone, or can’t, or just don’t have the energy to, it’s an amazing way to have your cake and eat it too.

On an emotional level it felt so great to be with other women who were in the same spot as me. Not sure how to incorporate fitness into the busy schedule of being a mom – and wondering if I’d ever find the time again. I left feeling so worked out – I haven’t sweat like that in almost 2 years really – and I felt like I made a few new friends who are on the same page as me.

So thanks Jules, for making my legs feel like absolute Jell-O. And for the mamas in the Ottawa area who aren’t sure about taking a class – you have to just try. The first one is free!

Much love to all of you today – and wishing you all a healthy and happy Friday.
